Prolific Canadian songwriter DAN MANGAN joins the HIO MUSIC community in an elbows-up fight against Spotify

In what is an exciting way to kick off both the spring 2025 touring season and respond to anti-Spotify sentiment from both artists and music fans alike, Canadian songwriting icon Dan Mangan has made 33 entire live shows available exclusively on the HIO platform as of March 26, 2025.

The compilation of live recordings, titled Going Somewhere, borrows its title from Mangan’s celebrated 2023 release, the Being Somewhere LP. On a cross-Canada tour in 2023 that saw Mangan perform coast-to-coast from Vancouver, BC to St John’s, Newfoundland, Mangan recorded every show and distributed the recordings to his fans. Now, in a striking act of solidarity with the up-and-coming HIO Music platform (described by users as the “Spotify Killer”), Mangan has licensed the recordings exclusively to the platform. Via HIO, you can now follow Mangan across Canada and relive the experience of seeing the concerts that you yourself may have even attended.

“This was without a doubt the most memorable and sublime tour of my life,” Mangan recalls. “Something magical just fell into place - the band, the crew, the audiences… I’m so thankful I get to do this, and it’s exciting to share these recordings on a forward thinking platform like HIO that prioritizes the well-being of artists."

About Being Somewhere:

Mangan’s 6th studio album, Being Somewhere, was produced by Drew Brown (Radiohead, Beck) over nearly three years of long-distance collaboration. The album unfurls like an overdue tender conversation with a dear friend. Forging sonics well beyond the tropes of modern folk music, the album features a global cadre of top tier musicians including Joey Waronker (Beck, Atoms for Peace), Jason Falkner (Beck, St. Vincent), Thomas Bartlett (The National, Taylor Swift), Dave Okumu (Arlo Parks, Adele) Mary Lattimore (Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten), and Broken Social Scene frontman Kevin Drew.
