From the upcoming ‘III’ album, the latest Principleasure track “System 100” harnesses the nostalgia of raves passed, the track itself culled from long-forgotten 12”s with decades-old vodka and Red Bull congealed in the grooves. “It takes an iconic Roland modular synth, a dusty old drum kit and some primordial grunts I hastily huffed into a mic,” explains Sharooz Raoofi, Principleasure’s namesake. “It was like opening a time capsule.
”Channeling that feeling where late night becomes early morning, “System 100” transports you to another time and place, even if you can’t quite put your finger on it: is it Chicago in 1988, or Berlin in 2001? Is it Detroit in 1995, or Paris three days ago? There’s a timelessness to Principleasure’s driving beats, rhythmic hi-hats, and ethereal textures that all float like MDMA clouds into one unanimous sound. And more than anything, regardless of the many worlds and time periods of house and techno that Principleasure pulls from, it’s most effective in conjuring a feeling of holding up your arms, into the lights of the club, as night turns to morning.
